About Heroica: personalised children’s books where your child is the hero

By the Heroica editorial team5 min read

Heroica (heroicabooks.com) creates personalised, illustrated digital children’s books in which the child is the hero. Stories are written for ages 2 to 12 in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish or French, and illustrated with AI assistance from a photo shared with a guardian’s permission.

What is Heroica?

Heroica is a service that creates personalised, illustrated digital children’s books in which the child is the protagonist. Each story is written for the child’s age and moment, and the illustrations are made with AI assistance from a photo of the child.

Heroica, also known as Heroica Books, publishes at heroicabooks.com under the tagline “Every child deserves their own legend.” The child’s face, name, age and chosen lesson shape the whole story. For the wider category, see our guide to personalised children’s books.

What does a Heroica book include?

A Heroica book is a complete illustrated story starring the child, delivered digitally as an online reader plus PDF and EPUB files. You choose the length (12, 18 or 24 pages), the art style, the theme, the lesson and an optional dedication.

  • The child as the hero, with the same face on every page.
  • Text written for the child’s age, in the book’s language.
  • Five art styles: watercolour, 3D animation, anime, coloured pencil, classic.
  • Six themes: under the sea, outer space, dinosaurs, enchanted forest, castle, circus, or your own idea.
  • Lessons: courage, friendship, believing in yourself, respecting difference, kindness, perseverance, sleeping alone, a new sibling, or your own.
  • Optional dedication. Books are kept in My orders.

How is a Heroica book made?

You upload a clear photo, enter the child’s name and age, then choose a style, theme and lesson. You see a free preview of the cover and first page before paying. The book comes in 12, 18 or 24 pages, with a one-time payment.

  1. Photo and details: a clear, front-facing photo plus the child’s name, age and, optionally, gender.
  2. Preview: the free preview shows the cover and first illustrated page with the story text, usually within 2 to 3 minutes. No account, no card.
  3. Payment: one-time, through Stripe (card; Pix too in Brazil), for a 12-, 18- or 24-page book.

Which languages and ages does Heroica cover?

Heroica writes for children aged 2 to 12 in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and French. Each version is written in its own language, not machine-translated from English, and vocabulary and sentence length adapt to the age you enter.

How does Heroica keep the same face on every page?

The photo is turned into a fixed visual character sheet. Every illustration starts from that sheet, and an automatic check compares each page with it; anything that drifts is redrawn before delivery. Heroica’s promise is the same face on every page.

Keeping a character recognisable from page to page is one of the main challenges of AI illustration. Our guide to AI personalised children’s books explains what to check with any service.

How is the child’s photo handled?

The original photo is kept in private storage and sent temporarily to KIE AI, Heroica’s image-generation provider. It is deleted once the character sheet and the preview images no longer need it. It is never sold or used in advertising, and you can request access, correction or deletion.

  • Photos from interrupted orders are scheduled for clean-up after 24 hours; no original is kept beyond 30 days.
  • Whoever uploads the photo must confirm they are the child’s guardian or have permission.

Details are in the privacy policy and our guide to child photo safety in AI books.

Frequently asked questions

Is Heroica the same as Heroica Books?

Yes. They are the same brand, at heroicabooks.com, with sections in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and French.

Can I order a book for a child who isn’t mine?

Yes, for example as a birthday or Christmas present, as long as you are the child’s guardian or have permission to use their photo. Heroica asks you to confirm this first.

How can I judge the book before paying?

Through the free preview of the cover and first page, with the story text. It lets you judge the likeness, style and tone before any payment. For questions, write to contact@heroicabooks.com.

How long does the full book take?

The free preview is usually ready in 2 to 3 minutes. The complete book takes longer, depending on illustration generation, and appears in My orders when ready.

Are the reviews and family photos on the site real?

Testimonials appear only with the family’s permission and are never invented. Photos of families reading are illustrative editorial images, not customers.
